Jonah Frith expresses himself musically by combining power with sensitivity. He is at home in a big band and in the smallest jazz settings, communicating with his bandmates in a vibrant musical conversation.

     Jonah Frith is one of the most exciting young players to hit the jazz scene in recent years. His diverse, powerful yet sensitive playing style captivates listeners. His ability to “crossover” styles is something unique for such a young player. Jonah is an up and coming young drummer that you must keep a look out for!

     I have known Jonah for over two years. I have been his applied classical percussion teacher and he has also been an important part of the (SU)PERcussion Ensemble. Working with Jonah has been a real pleasure. His talent, both in classical and jazz percussion is readily apparent. His technique and feel on the drum set is first rate. He’s able to adapt to any style of music and enhance it with what he plays.
     In his classical lessons he always impressed me with his depth of knowledge and technique. Normally, I don’t expect jazz students to have equally good technique on classical percussion instruments. He is able to assimilate new concepts and techniques readily and utilize them with great success. As a member of the SU Percussion Ensemble he was always prepared no matter what instrument he was assigned to play. He has the drive and self- discipline to learn whatever he puts his mind to. He is always easy to work with and is much liked and respected by his classmates.
He is by far one of the top percussionists at Shenandoah, both jazz and classical. I see a bright future for him in whatever branch of music he wishes to pursue.
