About:
Jonah Frith was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and started playing percussion at the age of 9. Being in a military family he moved from place to place eventually ending up in King George Virginia where he currently resides. He was in all the bands the elementary, middle, and high schools would offer him in King George. His interest sparked as soon as he entered middle school and he started competing. He made districts in both years of middle school and various i&e solos in neighboring counties.
As soon as high school hit, Frith hit every opportunity he could. He was in the marching band for four years, becoming section leader his senior year. Starting out on Bass drum his freshman year, he moved to snare, then tenors, then back to snare for his senior year. He also did every ensemble he was able to be a part of such as the concert band for the first year and the wind ensemble for the next three years.
During these years his Jazz career started to form. He had played in the jazz ensemble for three years playing not only drum set but vibes as well. This includes his time on set for three musicals in the pit.
In these formidable years, Jonah has gone to All Districts, Regionals, and All-State in Virginia for all four years of High School for classical percussion. Through his making All-State he was able to go to nationals at Disney World in Florida.
Frith then started his college career in 2019 at Shenandoah University majoring in Jazz Studies on Drum Set. Making the shift from classical to Jazz, he still keeps his ties by being in the percussion ensemble and wind ensemble.
Moving from private teacher Kevin Taylor in high school, to Alphonso M. Young Jr. and Earl Yowell in college while pursuing a Jazz Studies degree, Frith remains active. He resides in Virginia during the summer and attends school in West Texas the rest of the year. In Lubbock, Texas he is currently a private music teacher, teaching primarily drum set in the LISD program. Using his classical and marching upbringing, he continues to push his drum set playing. Being motivated by pure art forms and all his past experiences, he constantly remains inspired in and by music and life.
